Het was al jaren een vurige wens van de leden en staf van ons percussion; meedoen aan het indoor percussion circuit in de wintermaanden. Na veel intern overleg, wikken en wegen, praten, plannen schrijven en begrotingen maken, is nu de kogel door de kerk. Jubal krijgt z'n eigen indoor percussion unit, met de heldere en effectieve naam: Jubal Indoor Percussion. Deze winter zal mee worden gedaan aan een aantal wedstrijden van de organisaties CGN en IPE. Ook is er al een spectaculair programma met de naam: “Breathe”. Het percussion van Jubal behoort al jaren tot de top van Nederland en Europa. Het werd dus tijd om de vleugels uit te slaan en verder te kijken. “De wintermaanden worden veelal gevuld met oefeningen, soms een beetje eentoning en saai. Met het instuderen van een compleet nieuwe show is een geweldige uitdaging gevonden om de wintermaanden goed en nuttig te besteden”, aldus stafcoördinator Ramon Opmeer. Met het instuderen van een indoor percussion-show wordt ontzettend veel ervaring en kennis opgedaan, wat ook zeker van toepassing komt in het zomerseizoen. Alle leden die aankomende zomer meedoen, gaan deze winter dus ook meedoen aan het indoor percussion circuit. De staff verwacht dat hierdoor de kwaliteit van Jubal's percussion verder omhoog zal gaan. Aan de leden zal een kleine extra vergoeding worden gevraagd om dit mogelijk te maken.

Jubal’s nieuwe captionhead percussion Ruben Lourens: “Normaal gesproken bedenkt en schrijft Jubal alle shows zelf, maar dit is voor de vereniging een compleet nieuw fenomeen. Daarom is besloten om expertise uit Amerika te halen.” In samenwerking met de Amerikaanse creativelingen John Mapes en Ion Grom van het design-bedrijf ‘Box Six' is een goed programma gevonden met de naam: "Breathe". De drill wordt wel geschreven door onze eigen visual-mensen Robin Bogert en Matt Thompson. Voordeel is dat Jubal verder alles al in huis heeft: leden, instructeurs, instrumenten en... pitversterking. Want tijdens de show "Breathe" zal ook gebruik worden gemaakt van elektronische samples, een bassgitaar en synthesizer. In de show "Breathe" draait alles om het fenomeen 'ademen'. Jubal Indoor Percussion gaat dit in al z'n facetten uitbeelden.

Het percussion circuit is booming. Ieder jaar komen er groepen bij die meedoen aan het circuit. Het gaat om een competitie in sporthallen, waarbij drumlines en frontensembles een show brengen, inclusief een intensieve drill. De show die Jubal Indoor Percussion gaat instuderen duurt zo'n zeven minuten. De shows worden, net zoals in het drumcorps-circuit, beoordeeld door een vakkundige jury. Het indoor percussion circuit van CGN is gekoppeld aan het populaire winterguard-seizoen. IPE (Indoor Percussion Europe) is een zelfstandig circuit en heeft de afgelopen jaren een enorme groei doorgemaakt.

De circuits IPE en CGN zijn inmiddels op de hoogte gesteld van onze deelname en reageren enthousiast. We gaan nu uitzoeken voor welke wedstrijden we ons zullen gaan inschrijven. Er zal aan minimaal drie contesten worden meegedaan. De IPE finals in Engeland vallen helaas af, omdat dit evenement samenvalt met het jaarlijkse paascamp in Someren. We verwachten op korte termijn met het schema te komen. Jubal ziet deelname deze winter als een test, gewoon kijken of het bevalt en of het naar meer smaakt. De verwachtingen zijn in ieder geval hooggespannen en de leden hebben er ontzettend veel zin in. Ook bestaan er plannen om Jubal Indoor Percussion in de zomermaanden als extra act aan te bieden aan organisaties van taptoes. Gekeken wordt of daar interesse voor bestaat.

JUBAL presents: JUBAL INDOOR PERCUSSION

For many years it has been the wish of our staff and members of the Jubal drumline to participate in the indoor percussion circuit during the winter months. After a great many talks, discussions, meetings, a lot of planning, writing and debating budgets this wish will now become reality. Jubal will have its own indoor percussion unit, carrying the clear and effective name of “Jubal Indoor Percussion”. This winter Jubal will enter several competitions of the CGN and IPE circuits. The unit will perform the spectacular production of “Breathe”.

For several years Jubal’s drumline has been among the top of the Dutch and European units. It was time to extend the possibilities and capacities of the unit. “The winter months are primarily used for studying new exercises, which sometimes becomes monotonous or even boring. Studying a completely new show has created a fantastic challenge to spend the winter months in a very effective and useful way”, says staff coordinator Ramon Opmeer. Members get a lot of new experience and knowledge while studying an indoor percussion show, which will obviously benefit our summer programme as well. All members that will be marching in the 2010 corps, will also be involved in the indoor percussion circuit. Staff expects that thanks to the indoor percussion programme the overall quality of the corps’ drumline will get better and better. From all members kick in a few extra euros to make this project possible.

The drill will be written by our own visual staff members Robin Bogert and Matt Thompson. The corps’ advantage is that Jubal has access to all its own necessary components: members, instructors, instruments and amplification. In the show “Breathe” we will; also be using electronic samples, a bass guitar and synthesizer. In the show “Breathe” everything is centred around the phenomenon “breathing”.

The percussion circuit is booming business. Every season many groups get together to participate in the circuit. We are talking about a competition in sportshalls where drumlines and front ensembles perform shows that include intense drill. The show that Jubal will study will be about seven minutes long. The shows will be judged by a qualified judging panel, similar to the drumcorps circuit. The indoor percussion circuit of CGN is linked to their successful and popular winterguard season. IPE (Indoor Percussion Europe) is an independent circuit which has seen an impressive growth over the last few years.

Both IPE and CGN circuits have been notified of Jubal’s scheduled participation. We will now select the shows we will sign up for. We will participate in a minimum of 3 competitions. Unfortunately the IPE Championships in England will not be an option, since these will be held the same weekend Jubal has its annual Easter camp with the full corps in Someren. Jubal sees participation in the indoor percussion circuit as a test, to see if this is something that fits the corps and asks for more. Members are very enthusiastic and are dying to get started. There are also thoughts of offering the Jubal Indoor Percussion to festival and tattoo committees during the summer months as an extra act.
